Sunday 30th August – In Canberra

Wow what a course! It has improved heaps since I was last here, the laps have been shortened and several ‘dual slalom’ type sections have been to create more passing room in the single track. It’s full on though, some real technical sections and heaps of drops, jumps etc. The course is not something you would want to do tired or half hearted as we found out, crashing here is never going to be nice. Made it to Canberra!

The World Champs are only days away from commencing now! The hardest part of this journey is behind us all now… all the hard training sessions and prep has been ticked off and the long day travelling to get here is done! We even looked like a team travelling for the first time, Sadie gave us each black NZ hoodies to wear, choice. The best thing though, was that my bike (and everyone else’s) actually made it to Australia when it was meant too! As for my laptop and all my school work they had somehow been left in Des’s car boot, back in Auckland??? So there is no probable way any assignment work could possibly be done on this trip…I’ll just have to fill in my time doing fun stuff instead. Continue reading ‘Made it to Canberra!’

Waiariki’s Mock World Champs

On Wednesday our Waiariki Academy of Sport support staff put together a ‘mock’ world champs race to help with our preparation for the real thing. It was an awesome idea and the other mtb’ers and I found so useful. It highlighted all the weaknesses and strengths in our preparation wheather it be bike prep, warm up, nutrition or anything else that could and did have an impact on our performance.
