N-Duro round #1

On Sunday it had been decided that competing in the Rotorua 40km N-Duro would be a good idea. With a whopping two whole weeks (minus one day) worth of training under my belt I wasn’t expecting any a miracle placing… and I guess that’s why I didn’t get one???This round of the N-Duro’s was a Worlds selection race for some of the riders so there was a big turn out. As I started out near the front and then slowly drifted my way back through the field I got to see how some of the other girls were riding… which was a bit faster than me as I am pretty sure I just hit the wall after maybe 5 or 10ks, wishing I had had more breakfast or a picnic in my backpack. This race was a good opportunity for me to learn a few things and learn them quickly.

  1. : 40km takes a long time to cover in the Redwoods (taking a watch or speedo or knowing the course would help)
  2. : 40km is too long to ride without any carbo-shots (so take them and eat them)
  3. : The view from the back of the race is not as good as he view from the front
  4. : I have a bit of work to do.
  5. : Staying for prize giving instead of heading back for a shower could score you a set of new breaks.

My next race will be round 2 of the N-Duros in a months time… where I will be racing on a new flash Jamis hardtail!!

The Jamis Dragon Team 20th Edition Mountain bike – 2008

This awesome mountain bike is only 9 months old. Recently had the XTR cluster and chain replaced so all running gear is in mint condition. This bike is a rocket. I’ve only used it for racing and enough riding in between to get my eye in. The steal frame ensures the ride is very smooth and soft – for a hardtail. Has all the top of the line bling. From time-to-time has gone quicker than any other bikes out there…

10 weeks on…

10 weeks on from my operation and I have finally been able to go for my first run!! A whole 15 minutes worth (5min more than I was suppose to… naughty I know) but it was just so frikken awesome. Every muscle in my body ached and felt weird apart from my calf muscles! So the surgery was indeed a very good investment, thanks Mum and Dad.

I am sure every day my calf muscles are growing a little bigger, maybe it’s all the venison we have been eating every day from Nathan’s hunt or maybe it’s just my hopeful thinking? Either way being able to use these muscles properly for the first time in years is the weirdest feeling, it has changed my whole cycling technique and given me more muscles to draw power from. In theory this means I should be able to go faster now once everything starts to sync together…? It’s Tip track night tonight which will be a good test, I will let you know if this theory is right…
