Rotorua Enduro – 20km

In the weekend I burnt up to Rotovegas with the old man. Shearing the driving of course because apparently to get your licence you actually have to practise driving… who would have thought??? So Saturday morning we left raining Wellington behind and headed up to north to where there was sun and sure enough we made it there safely and on time due to my excellent driving. After a bakery stop we headed out for a ride to check out some of the course, after an hour I headed back for a shower and after 5 and ½ hours dad headed back… Continue reading ‘Rotorua Enduro – 20km’

Cateye Moonride 08

Was a MUDFEST!!! Wow if u like riding through thick slushy mud, big puddles and tearing up the tracks in Rotorua for 12 or 24 hours you would have been in heaven. It was crazy…. They took out the uphill and downhill section making it a rolling flat course. It was pretty fun. I felt sorry for the 24-hour dudes & dudesses who had to start in the rain and dark and cold etc. Luckily the weather had all cleared up by the time the 12hour lot got started. Still cold but once the gas heaters were fired up and bbq got cranking all was well. Continue reading ‘Cateye Moonride 08′

It reminded my taste buds of what it is like to have both you and your bike caked in mud!! I never understand how I always seem to get the most mud on me, more than everyone else who rides the same track!? But it’s the price I’ll happily pay to bring Team Sheppard home… Continue reading ‘2008 Crazyman’

Time over at the other side on the road…

It was a way of getting some solid miles in and a means of keeping me in reality of how intense I need to be able to ride. Although he did say 80% effort – yeah right. Try to hang on to the front of the bunch at 80% when they have the hammer down. It was quite a contrast to the long slow miles I had been doing leading into these races… I was getting rather comfortable with the post race season training as it was being mostly done at comfortable tempo, except for the Wednesday night mountain bike rides.
